Reddestiny posted a link in our shoutbox, and I just wanted to add what it was about, in case it gets lost in the shoutbox! Thank you reddestiny for the info.
Possible signs of corruption
1. Children/toddlers have something else in place of the grow up aspiration.
2. Wants don't fit the age group (Ex: Maybe the toddler wants to go on a date)
3. Squiggly lines in thought bubbles or memories.
4. Lost or random memories.
5. Disappearing/unplayable lots and sims
6.Sims losing family members in the family tree.
7. Buy/build mode, disappears.
Refer to Fixing Game Corruption: ts2ultimate.freeforums.net/thread/26/fixing-game-corruption
Avoid Game Corruption
1. The grim reaper, Mrs. Crumplebottom, the therapist, pollination technician, and ideal plantsims (As well as several other NPCs) are all NPCs that are considered objects. Only interact with them in the way they are designed in the game, do not attempt to modify their files if you find them, do not attempt to add them to your house or make them playable. This is known to cause permanent corruption.
2. Don't attempt to modify the folders in the Program Files location in your driver (If you are someone who knows what you're doing, of course you probably figured out how to do this without messing anything up. lol)
Do's and Don't's of avoiding neighborhood corruption
Most of the don't's have the same reason, that is that when you try to delete things, there could be left over data, for the sim or lot which can slowly spread corruption through the neighborhood because of gossip. As in they are gossiping about something that isn't suppose to exist.
1. Do refuse to attempt these actions
2. Don't delete a sim in the family bin (Perhaps if you reset the neighborhood, then delete your own made sims, it could be okay because there would no longer be corrupted broken links. However I would not suggest doing that.)
3. Don't delete character or lot files.
4. Don't move an occupied lot or owned community lot to the lot bin.
5. Don't move a previously owned or occupied lot to the lot bin.
6. Don't install an occupied lot including downloaded lots that ship with family (the files for those that the family knew in their old neighborhood will be copied over but since they are not there, that leads to corruption.)
7.Don't use the DeleteAllCharacters cheat (only partially deletes files, leading to corruption.)
8. Don't delete urns/tombstones (there goes that partial data again, the game treats these two like sims.)
9. Don't moves lots that have graves to the lot bin.
10. Don't allow sims to die with graves in their inventories.
11. Don't resurrect premade dead sims that shipped with the game.
12. Don't attempt to place gravestones or urns on the OFB shelves or display cases (remember their still treated like sims)
13. Here's a big one. Don't have too many sims in your neighborhood (with just the base game and university there is a character file limit of about a thousand. If the neighborhood reaches that point the new sims will disappear leaving half data that causes corruption. With later expansion and stuff packs that number is extremely increased to over thirty two thousand. By resetting the neighborhoods at times you can fix this and start fresh, or you can take time away from the pre made neighborhoods and make your own since they don't come with anything right from the start.)
this leads to the next one.
14. Do occaisionally make your own neighborhoods, I'm sure these can be deleted in game from the start menu so don't worry about space.
15. Don't save while ghosts are active on the lot or while your sims are on the telephone. (The sim your sim is talking to is considered an off world loiterer, and the game will register that they are on the lot when they are not, let them finish their conversation then save and quit.)
15a. While we're at it don't move lots with any sort of off world loiter "on the lot" to the bin, corruption can happen with that too.
16. Don't remove multi-pollination technician or multi-plantsims mods from your game folders. (these make the pollination technician and plantsims spawn automatically, just leave the files alone their suppose to be there.)
17. Again Don't attempt to move in, make selectable, or modify certain NPCS
Big Foot (the one that can be seen from the forest vacation secret lot) is a clone of a sim with playable character data he is designed to be added to the household if you want him. However there is apparently a second Big Foot that is considered an object, don't do anything with that one, if I find the difference I'll let you know. Of course there is also another robot (not Servo made from the workers bench) called Sentrybot I believe, leave that one alone it's considered an object.
18. Don't and Do We all know the social worker and his or her(Maybe their all women?) purpose however the social worker's file is glitched. Sometimes when you get a blind date she may become available, if that happens don't interact with her, just use the moveobjects cheat to delete her. Or play it safe and send your sim out on the town to find a spouse or date.
19. Don't rezone lots with sims stay at them or living on them.
20. Don't remove custom careers while your sim is employed in them, hair, eyes, skin, make-up, or food (probably clothes too) (This is because of want trees, and generated sims, I believe if you first reset the neighborhood, that's in the other post, then delete these things it should be okay because they don't know the deleted object exists. Also when deleting custom careers with or without resetting the neighborhood, make your sim quit first.)
21. This is listed as fixable corruption, apparently a couple of starter families in the bin that can go in game are pregnant. Why does this matter? Because they are glitched. Both Samantha Ottomas and Sarah Crittur (who I found is actually a dog) are pregnant with offspring with incomplete character data. You shouldn't let them have their babies, apparently there is a mod for this but this is an older game and I worry that they may not work anymore. It is possible with the digital copy that the glitches were fixed this time around, but I'm unsure.
22. Do make your files read-only, in the Program Files location, this should prevent corruption from ever occurring because it prevents the game from adding to those files.
I know I know I could have just said that from the beginning, but it's all helpful, and making the files read only doesn't fix corruption that already happened. If you find safe mods or some sort of patch you will need to take read only off in order to install them. Also here is the file path I have to get to the right area.
Computer/Local Disk (C:)/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection
go in there and use the read only option.
Hope this was useful
